Bill McConnell
Bill joined Generation Ready (formerly AUSSIE) in 1998 as an educational consultant supporting struggling school districts throughout New York City. Bill brings more than 35 years of educational expertise having supported schools and education systems throughout the world, including Australia, England, South Africa and Asia.
Bill has been in a variety of roles within education as a teacher, administrator, coach, and consultant across all grades. He has supported schools, districts, and states at all levels in education.
Before moving to the United States Bill was the General Manager of Reading Matters, a national education non-profit organization in South Africa that provides teacher training, materials and schools to poor communities in the region. Equity has always been his passion – “it is vital to ensure all students have equal opportunities to help them succeed in life.” His mission is to provide every child with an outstanding education which he believes is the most critical 21st century challenge; this is why he affirms partnering with great schools has the potential to transform lives.
Bill’s background affords him a uniquely qualified perspective on modern education. He works closely with Maria Quail in providing a consistent nationwide strategy for Generation Ready’s professional development initiatives. The focus of such initiatives is ensuring consultancy is research-based and transformative, and supports educational equity, leadership growth, teacher effectiveness, and student achievement in schools that Generation Ready partners with.
