Generation Ready and Literacy Design Collaborative Announce Partnership to Support Educators in Common Core Instruction
NEW YORK – The most powerful way to raise student achievement is through professional learning. Research shows that effective collaborative professional learning for teachers is what distinguishes high performing schools from lower performing schools. That’s the belief underlying a new partnership that is designed to ensure students graduate from high school with the literacy skills necessary to succeed in college and their careers.
Generation Ready, one of the leading providers of professional learning and school improvement services, has announced a national partnership with Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC), a national community of professional educators that delivers researched-based tools and resources to help students meet and exceed the demands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The LDC Framework has been demonstrated to improve teaching practice and student literacy outcomes in schools across the country.
The two organizations will combine their unique services to support the implementation of proven approaches that prepare K-12 students for success in college and career. In November, the U.S. Department of Education selected LDC as one of the highest rated applications in the Investing in Innovation (i3) Fund, aimed at developing innovative approaches to improving student achievement and replicating effective strategies across the country. Part of that strategy will involve classroom embedded instructional support to help raise the teaching practice, specifically in literacy, to the levels expected by the CCSS.
Generation Ready offers 20 years of experience working side by side with individuals and teams of teachers across the country, providing real-time feedback and demonstrating instructional strategies in classrooms. For LDC, this was an important factor when deciding to partner with Generation Ready.
“We are excited that the Generation Ready team has joined the LDC fold as an approved organization to provide LDC training across the country,” said Chad Vignola, executive director of LDC. “Generation Ready comes with decades of expertise in supporting teachers’ ability to accelerate students’ mastery of instructional standards. As one of the premier professional learning organizations in the country, we are eager to support Generation Ready’s incorporation of LDC into its coaching repertoire.”
Learning Forward, an association devoted to advancing professional learning for student success, has long established that teachers need to engage in continuous professional learning to meet the challenges of the CCSS. The timeworn style of professional development and one-off workshops just won’t cut it anymore. Instead, the most powerful way to raise student achievement is through continuous and collaborative professional learning for teachers.
Justin Serrano, CEO of Generation Ready, says the partnership with LDC is a natural fit for the two organizations. “Generation Ready has been helping teachers raise their practice for years, including providing crucial support to hundreds of schools focused on meeting the instructional challenges of the CCSS. LDC provides an exceptional set of tools to bolster our work and connect it to a network of educators around the country.”
Generation Ready’s education consultants are trained in LDC in preparation for work in schools in New York City and additional districts across the country in 2015.
