Join former president of the National School Boards Association (NSBA), Miranda Beard, as she discusses educational equity practices the Laurel School Board district has implemented that are having a positive impact on student achievement, including:

  • An increase in attendance rates
  • An increase in academic improvement as indicated by formative assessments
  • A reduction in suspensions and disciplinary actions

Miranda A. Beard served as the 2016-2017 president of the National Schools Boards Association (NSBA) based in the Washington, D.C. area. NSBA’s members are state school board associations across the United States. Those associations serve nearly 90 thousand school board members who help 50 million school-aged children.

She was elected to her leadership role in April 2016 by NSBA’s 150-member Delegate Assembly in Boston, Massachusetts. Miranda was first elected to the NSBA Board in April 2011 as a director representing the Southern Region; in 2012, she was re-elected to a three-year term. Miranda is the president of the Laurel School District Board of Trustees and past president of the Mississippi School Boards Association.
